 NEWARK, N.J. – Maximo Diaz, age 22, of Newark, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to conspiring to defraud the United States Department of the Treasury by filing phony tax returns which generated over $200,000 in fraudulent income tax refund checks for himself and co-conspirators, with the aid of an accomplice in the Passaic branch of Valley National Bank. |

NEWARK, NJ - A former detective-sergeant of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department who was also a former Haledon Borough council member was sentenced today to 85 months in federal prison for conspiring to distribute significant quantities of cocaine that he had stolen from the evidence vault at the Sheriff’s Department, Acting U.S. Attorney Ralph J. Marra, Jr. announced.
